ABOUT CAROLYN DUGGAN
Carolyn is an IACP accredited Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, who has been working in Naas since 2010 . She is also an IACP accredited integrative Supervisor , supervising trainee and qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapists in their own client work. More recently she has become an accredited APT Dialectical Behaviour Therapist (DBT).
Carolyn has also trained as an Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapist with Aisling Leonard-Curtin from ACT Now Purposeful Living.
Carolyn had over 21 years of management experience in Production Engineering ( both in Jewellery & Clothing Manufacturing ) and Retail Management before leaving to set up her Counselling and Psychotherapy practice.
Carolyn provides individual counselling and psychotherapy to adults over 18yrs ,as an integrative therapist she recognises that there is no “one size fits all” approach, and integrates techniques such as ACT, DBT, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness into sessions as appropriate. She offers both Face to Face and online service.

Carolyn helps people to live as well as they possibly can in the present ,depending on the presenting issue and on what the client is seeking . This may include problem solving and self-esteem building, while exploring the history of the issue and the underlying dynamics. She offers you a place to offload, to explore your thoughts and feelings with the chance to see things from new perspectives and angles. It does involve looking at the present problems (what is going on at the moment) and if the client wishes at underlying issues (that may relate to early messages about the world, relationships, and how you ‘should’ be). The aim is for you to understand yourself better, to make changes to your life that are more productive and rewarding, and to help you move towards becoming the kind of person you want to be.
She works with clients, at their pace, to help them articulate , identify and explore their issues. In an atmosphere of acceptance and trust, you will work together not just to alleviate your symptoms and discover solutions, but also to find greater meaning in your life and to help you experience personal growth, and work toward your therapeutic goals in a meaningful way.
The most important aspect of your work together is the establishment of a trusting therapeutic relationship. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it is essential that you feel there is a good fit between you both and that you are comfortable asking questions about your work together. She believes this is essential in facilitating the self-discovery which accompanies good therapy.
Her approach is very flexible and adaptable to each individual. First and foremost, therapy with Carolyn is safe and confidential, she values and regards this very highly. As a person and as a therapist, she is warm, caring, authentic and dedicated to the people with whom she works. Carolyn is passionate about helping people to develop self-compassion in their own lives and brings her experience and perspective, as well as her humour, authenticity, and zest for life into the therapy room. She is dedicated to providing an inclusive space, and welcome clients of all genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, religions, and relationship frameworks.
Carolyn’s specialty areas include anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, emotional regulation, attachment & trust , relational issues, family conflict and adjusting to life transitions.
